Director: Daryn Glassbrook, Ph.D.
Daryn Glassbrook has been Executive Director of the Mobile Medical Museum since February 2016. Under his leadership, the Museum has launched several successful programming initiatives, including the Artist Residency Program, the Robert Thrower Medicinal Garden, and the Mobile Community Health Leadership Awards. Dr. Glassbrook has also curated or co-curated the special exhibitions to the bone; Public Health, Common Good; Seedlings: A History of Pediatric Care; Different/Fit: Eugenics in Alabama, 1919-1935; 100 Years of Insulin; Where Does It Hurt? The Enduring Mystery of Pain; Dreaming at Dawn: African Americans and Healthcare, 1865-1945; ORBIT: Explorations of the Eye Through the Ages; and Healing Women: Medical History from a Female Perspective. He has also directed two video series for the Museum, Public Health Profiles (2023) and Living Through COVID-19 (2022), the latter of which was supported by a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services. He has 16 years of professional experience in the nonprofit sector, predominately in the museum field. His prior experience includes senior leadership and development positions at the Centre for the Living Arts (now the Alabama Contemporary Art Center); the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Arts (North Adams, Massachusetts); and the Nevada Museum of Art (Reno, Nevada). His writings on medical history have appeared in Nursing Clio, Mobile Bay Magazine, and the 2020 exhibition catalog for A History of Mobile in 22 Objects, by the History Museum of Mobile. Dr. Glassbrook completed his graduate studies in American literature at Purdue University (Ph.D., 2006; M.A., 1999), where his education included graduate seminars in historical studies and archival theory and practice.
Director of Photography, Creative Producer, Sound Mixer, and Video Editor: Kris Skoda
Kris Skoda is the owner and founding creative director of Skodaworks Media and Marketing. He has 19 years of experience as a video production and marketing professional. He has worked on a wide range of projects, including feature films, documentaries, commercials/branded content, short films, and mini docs. In 2022 and 2023 Kris was voted Best Local Filmmaker in the Lagniappe Readers Choice Awards, and many projects he worked on have been awarded Telly and Addy Awards. Skoda’s prior work experience includes Associate Creative Director positions at ad agency/video production companies Craftshow Digital and Ladot Bespoke Branding, as well as Director of Photography positions on the films Backwoods, Demon Squad, The Giving Box, Feedr, and Crimson Blade. His documentary film experience includes crew positions on award winning documentary Raiders!: The Story of the Greatest Fan Film Ever Made, and chess documentary The Pawn Who Would Be Queen. His other film experience includes the feature films Convergence, Nigel & Oscar vs. The Sasquatch, Infinity Girls, and Longshots.
